Libor Krásný has been appointed professor in the field of microbiology, virology, and parasitology

On June 1, 2026, President Petr Pavel presented appointment decrees to professors in the Great Hall of Karolinum. He appoints them based on recommendations from the scientific and artistic councils of universities. Of the 93 appointees, 28 new professors were appointed based on a recommendation from the Scientific Council of Charles University.

Prof. Libor Krásný, Ph.D. (Faculty of Science, Charles University) has been appointed professor in the field of microbiology, virology, and parasitology.

Libor Krásný heads the IMIC Laboratory of Microbial Genetics and Gene Expression. His research focuses on the regulation of gene expression in bacteria, the functioning of RNA polymerase, mechanisms of bacterial resistance to antibiotics, and the development of new antibacterial agents. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in the U.S. and has long collaborated with leading Czech and international research teams. He is the author of highly cited scientific papers in prestigious journals, holds patents in the field of antimicrobial agents, and is one of the leading Czech experts in bacterial molecular biology.
