Joining forces to exploit the mycobiota of the world for beneficial metabolites and potential biocontrol agents, using -OMICS techniques (Mycobiomics 2.0 II)

Projects

Objective of the project:

This project builds on the successful Mycobiomics project, which brought together leading mycologists from Europe, Asia, and Africa. Research portfolio already encompassed taxonomy, ecology, “myco”-chemistry of natural products, and drug development, the search for new candidates for biological control using fungi. Emphasis was placed on the discovery of new anti-infective agents to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR). More than 50 young scientists formed a close-knit and sustainable network. Extract libraries were established, and new fungal strains were permanently preserved. The new project expands staff exchanges to mycological centers of excellence in Europe (Denmark, France, the United Kingdom) and also in Colombia and Brazil. The research now focuses on the interactions between fungi and their associated organisms. The project aims to contribute to addressing global threats caused by climate change and, ultimately, to improve the ability of the EU and our international partners to face future challenges.
