CELL CYCLE RESEARCH
BIŠOVÁ LAB
Cell cycle research is one of the most rapidly developing areas in biology today. Our laboratory has been involved in the study of growth and cell cycle in green algae for more than 50 years. We are also extending the knowledge, especially about energy reserves in algae, to applied research. Our main tool is synchronized cultures. This approach allows us both to optimally define the culture under study and to prepare large amounts of biomass for different analyzes.

Algal Models

We use the green algae Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, Desmodesmus quadricauda and Parachlorella kessleri as model organisms. However, we also study an extremophilic alga such as Galdireria sulphuraria.
Our main interests have evolved over the long history. Currently, we use methods of cell biology, physiology, genetics, and molecular biology to understand how growth is coordinated with cell cycle progression.
