Tomáš Hudcovic, Ph.D. works in the Laboratory of Gnotobiology, Institute of Microbiology of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Nový Hrádek. He deals with studies of gnotobiotic models of human civilization diseases. He leads a research group that focuses mainly on the influence of gut microbiota dysbiosis on the development of intestinal inflammation. This problem is studied in a gnotobiotic mouse model of experimental colitis induced by the administration of dextran sulphate sodium (DSS). He is studying the influence of pathogenic and/or probiotic strains (Clostridium tyrobutyricum and Escherichia coli Nissle 1917) and their products – postbiotics (butyrates) – on the development of acute intestinal inflammation.
