We are looking for a motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our international research team of Anoxygenic Phototrophs at ALGATECH, Třeboň, Czech Academy of Sciences, for a international project titled “Eutrophication and AAP bacteria: changes in the contribution of AAP bacteria to microbial dynamics and carbon cycle in response to trophic status” (25-17184K). It is a collaborative project involving researchers from Poland (National Marine Fisheries Research Institute) and Germany (The Leibniz Institute for Freshwater Ecology & Inland Fisheries, IGB) offering an opportunity to work at the intersection of molecular microbiology, biogeochemistry and bioinformatics contributing to freshwater microbial ecology in a great working environment. The main aims of this project are to:
- Investigate the impact of eutrophication on Aerobic Anoxygenic Phototrophic (AAP) bacteria.
- Advance our understanding of the role of AAP bacteria in the aquatic carbon cycle.
To address this topics, we will perform monthly field sampling on lakes with different trophic status, biochemical and microbiological analysis as well as sequencing and metagenomic investigation of the microbial community focusing on the AAP metabolic group.
Requirements
- PhD in biology, bioinformatics, or similar.
- Solid background in molecular biology.
- Experience with bioinformatics and statistical analysis of metagenomics or amplicon data.
- Proven ability in data analysis and scientific writing.
- Aptitude to work in a team including good communication skills.
Positively evaluated
- Programing experience (e.g. Python, bash, R).
- Valid driver’s license (for fieldwork).
- Experience working with phototrophic bacteria.
- Understanding of freshwater microbial community.
- Experience in the supervision of undergraduate students.
We offer
- A fully funded 24-month postdoc position that could be extended.
- Interdisciplinary expertise and inclusive working environment at ALGATECH.
- Active networking with collaboration and mobility opportunities between the international partners of the project in Germany and Poland.
- The position enables a flexible arrangement of the working hours.
