Innovation Boreal Living Labs & Lighthouses for soil health (BoreaLSoiL)

Objective of the project:

Boreal forests and agricultural lands face growing pressures caused by the overexploitation of organic soil matter, biodiversity loss, climate change, and land-use conflicts, leading to a decline in productivity and ecosystem services. The BoreaLSoiL project will drive the transition to healthy boreal soils by testing, validating, and implementing co-created, economically viable solutions that will be incorporated into 10 key deliverables (formalized “Living Lab”-type entities; a transferable protocol for co-creation; stakeholder-driven business models; land management guidelines; a monitoring framework; a monitoring methodology; participatory systems mapping; policy recommendations; and a toolkit for policy engagement), aimed at improving resilience, soil health, and supporting the provision of ecosystem services. The BoreaLSoiL project bridges the gap between science, practice, and policy, expands knowledge about soil health, and delivers practical, evidence-based solutions for informed decision-making.
