Bioinformatics
The lab aims at both original research in molecular genetics and development of tools, databases and servers for computational molecular genetics and bioinformatics, and collaborations by providing bioinformatics services. It is a member of Elixir infrastructure.
Focus of research
Original research projects of computational biology/bioinformatics:
Systems biology of transcriptional regulation (modelling of transcriptional regulatory networks, prediction of transcription factors regulons)
Computational biology of RNAs (a role of structures of pre-snRNAs in spliceosome biogenesis initiation and mRNA UTRs in gene translation, computational identification of ncRNA genes)
The lab authored the following public bioinformatic services,
based on algorithms developed by the lab, operated by ELIXIR-CZ:
- rPredictorDB – a predictive database for secondary structures of RNAs
- cpPredictor – a server for RNA structure prediction
- rboAnalyzer – a server for evaluation of BLAST searches for non-coding RNAs
- Genexpi – a tool for gene network inference from time-course gene expression data
- SWICZ– Swiss-Czech Proteomics Server
